Ground Truth
An initiative through Land to Learn that partners with residential youth programs to gain agency over one’s food system by providing gardening and cooking skills, food equity training, j ob readiness training and socio-emotional tools. This initiative seeks to help youth become better equipped to improve local food systems for themselves and their communities moving forward.
Land to Learn’s Mission
Growing a movement for food justice and community wellness through garden-based education.
Ground Truth Goals
To work with youth in residential programs to prepare them for a fulfilling life with a focus on food system change and self-resiliency. Our hope is that the youth involved in our programming will participate within their communities with a deeper understanding and passion for health and wellness practices that can connect and improve the communities they work alongside. We will provide real-life skills to help battle the inequities of the school to prison pipeline, while supporting trauma survivors in gaining agency over their lives.
How We Will Meet Our Goals
Build and maintain educational gardens with the youth to grow vegetables, flowers and other marketable goods to l earn from, cook with, and donate (while following all safety protocols set by the facility).
Provide socio-emotional tools for youth, including mediation, yoga, Circle practices and resiliency training.
Create partnerships between youth and community leaders such as farmers, food pantries, Family Access Coordinators and many more.
How to get Involved
Contact zoe@landtolearn.org for more information regarding this initiative. We are looking for partners who are passionate about undoing oppressive systems to build a space that is just for all: working with communities that are the most food insecure and providing skills to help high-risk youth unlock their abilities to become collaborative members of community.
